THE GIFT OF LIFE

Life’s greatest gift is life itself, with it’s many opportunities and gifts we search for the joys and sense of fulfillment it offers.

The journey towards fulfillment is varied and challenging, not the least of which is the issue of health.

Disease is experienced in all components of our life, physical, mental, social, and spiritual.

It threatens to break us down, and rob us of our treasured gift, not just physically, but also our sense of value, relationships and even our relationship with God.

Nature, society and science all work to assist in our recovery.

THE WAY OF JESUS

Jesus came that we may have abundant life. His wise and perceptive teachings were complemented by the extraordinary display of healing compassion. Through him we have a window through which we see the life we are offered by God

There are several areas to consider when embracing God’s healing.

REFLECTION

Healing moves toward completion when people are prepared to thoughtfully reflect upon their situation from the various perspectives, physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual which constitute our life.

1.      This is completed by the exercise of our natural capacity to reflect, perhaps with the aid of a personal journal.

2.      Others value a trusted and sensitive spiritual guide to share in reflecting upon the circumstance.

3.      Again others may prefer a profession counselor.

MINISTRY

When the time is right we are invited to present ourselves to Christ in a way that is appropriate for our circumstance and healing. The following is an outline of some options.v

1.      As a community of spirit the church upholds others in prayer as we seek medical and other “alternative” approaches to healing.

Ask to have your name added to the prayer list or prayer chain.

v

2.      We pray directly with you according to Jesus words, “where two or three are gathered together in my name I will grant your request”

Seek out a prayerful friend or request the members of the church to pray with you.

v

3.      To stimulate more deeply rhelms of our mind some find it helpful to imaginatively re-enact our approach to Jesus and seek the ministry of the laying on of hands.
Opportunity is offered during every communion service at the time people come for the gifts of bread and wine.

Bring a book with you to the communion rail and the priest will lay hands upon you as if the hands of Jesus.

Or arrange for him to meet privately with you

v

4.      Sometimes we are particularly weakened or overwhelmed by our situation or we may unconsciously find ourselves resisting God’s love deep within our unconscious mind. It may be appropriate to turn to the Churches sacramental ministries. Sacraments use symbols, the universal language of the unconscious to draw us into the full and real presence of Christ. In such circumstances it may be appropriate to turn to God through the sacraments such as oil anointing

An appointment with the parish priest is available for this ministry. It may be carried out  in private or in a public ceremony by arrangement.

v

5.      The nature of disease is often complex, effecting all areas of our life. Healing is rarely a quick fix. Invariably it requires thoughtful reflection, and at times decisions and conscious adjustment. Christian counselors or a trained and sensitive priest can guide a person in this necessary journey toward healing

HEALING FOR LIFE

Healing enables us to more fully receive the gift of life presented to us. It should not just stop with the removal of an ailment, as gratifying as this is. But as the healing comes we are enabled to more fully express the uniqueness of our individual personality in the context of our society.

Our own healing allows us to contribute more freely to the building up of society for the common good.
